Vans had been established as the premiere skater footwear brand, a choice skaters make when seeking comfort with performances. Skaters are always seeking the toughest sneakers to test out some of their newest tricks. It only made sense for these two companies to come together. The Vans Era x Carhartt sneaker collection brings to life a classic silhouette with a strong exterior that easily complements the two. Released in August 2010 in a pack of three, the model takes a more subtle tone with earthly flavors and black touches. Much is the case of Parra aka Pieter Jassen, who utilizes his artistic flair to not only work on a variety of art mediums, but his own clothing line and designs on footwear. Although the skate shop’s partnership with Nike is what they are most commonly known for, coming in a close second is their ties with Vans. The brands have linked up for multiple different packs and special collaborations over the past decade. A few years back the In4mation team was allowed to work on arguably Steve Caballero’s most popular model, the Half Cab. Sneaker Spotlight: Vans SK8-Hi “Hosoi”

Christian Hosoi is an American skateboarder who rose to fame starting in the 80’s but was successful for years beyond that decade. Hosoi was a top competitor as well as rival for such famous skaters like Steve Caballero and Tony Hawk. Starting off as a vert skater, Hosoi’s talents allowed him to transition and shift successfully towards street skating. He was able to help pioneer the popularity of skateboarding into mainstream and was successful in businesses involving the sport. His aerial tricks, flair and personality helped make him a fan favorite, and even with run-ins with the law, Hosoi was strongly supported by the skateboarding community. In 2006, a documentary film named Rising Son – The Legend of Skateboarder Christian Hosoi was released. The film detailed his success, drug issues, incarceration and conversion to Christianity. That same year Vans released a special “Hosoi” version of the classic Vans SK8-Hi. Continue reading
