A dope colorway on a classic silhouette doesn’t have the same ring as “A sound mind in a sound body,” but both tie back to Ronnie Fieg and the Asics Gel Lyte III. First given away as a sample, the Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Salmon Toe” was initially just a sample. As Ronnie tells it, he “friends” gave him a hard time about releasing a show with a “pink toe” and decided to not release it. We are near the end of August as well as the end of Summer (for many of us). The warm months of the year is a time when we can expect a variety of models to be rocked with no worries about rain or snow. So as we transition into a time when #sneakerholics may have to worry about the weather conditions, we look back at some of the favorite Summer choices. We’ve been asking enthusiasts on Twitter what their favorite Summer models were. From the responses we got these were the top 10 choices in no particular order.

If we told you that a running shoe line was based on the first line of a poem by Roman poet Juvenal, you probably wouldn’t believe me. However, when it comes to Asics, an acronym for the Latin phrase anima sana in corpore sano which translates “a sound mind in a sound body”, that is exactly how it works. But before we dig to far into the history of the brand, lets flash to the present and look at some of the current work that has come out of the brand.

For many brands, collaboration has always been a part of their style. From street graffiti and tattoo artist, to Basquiat, brands have often reached out to other creatives in order to interpret their styles in their own way. For Asics, one of their most recent and popular collaborators has been Ronnie Fieg. Once a Buyer for DavidZ in New York City, he has now opened up his own store, Kith. Continue reading
