Masters of Max: The Air Max Icons – Air Max 95


The Air Max 95 is Sundays Master of Max. Once again Nike pushed the boundaries of conventional design and aesthetics with the 95, the gradient grey and volt “pop” creating “Neon” colourway that is today, every bit as recognisable as the infrared. Once again this famous colourway has been applied and adapted to many other models perfectly. And that pop colour “Volt” now every bit an icon as the shoe itself.

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day has produced some great sneakers over the years. Not that we need a specific day to wear red sneakers and right now the popularity of all-red sneakers currently is at an all-time high. But brand’s have taken that extra step to create special kicks for February 14th. This was even more true way back in 2000 when Nike released these Air Max 95’s. While Marvel has hit the cinema industry in full force with their take on “The Avengers” franchise, there was once a point in their movie history that they focused on another team. When the Air Max 95 “Human Torch” released, it brought together a superhero theme with sneakers that stood to challenge what it means to collaborate with a major comic book franchise. “The Fantastic Four” debuted in 1961, featuring a team of four heroes imbued with super powers by cosmic rays. Written by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the franchise has seen its stay in mainstream media last for over 50 years and multiple movies. Nike took it upon itself to release these kicks coinciding with the major movie release in 2005. Much like the movie that released, the sneakers came about with much criticism that saw the pack falter behind the Air Force 1 “Invisible Woman” release, also much like the movie. Continue reading

Sneaker Showcase: Stash x Nike Blue Pack

Stash x Nike Blue Pack

Back in 2006 Nike collaborated with New York artist Stash once again for a special two-pack of sneakers. Stash had worked with Nike on a number of other projects, including kicks like another Air Force 1, as well as the Air Classic BW. This release became one of Stash’s most popular designs, thanks to being placed on two of the most iconic shoes in Nike history, the Air Force 1 Low and Air Max 95, named the “Blue Pack”. For this special pack the artist was inspired by the Nike ACG line using high end materials like regrind rubber, Climafit and water resistant textiles. Continue reading
