Since 2003 Nike and the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital have teamed up to create special footwear designed by who have battled serious illness to create shoes that reflect their unique personalities and experiences. Commemorating 10 years for the Freestyle Collection, the first sneaker that will be released in 2013 will be a brand new Air Jordan 5 inspired by a brave, young man who passed. In the beginning of the collection the sneakers chosen were only part of the Nike catalog, but the past 7 years have seen a numbered Air Jordon as part of the project. We look back at the previous 6 special edition J’s which consisted of the Air Jordan 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 9. With the AJ5 releasing we can only guess that the AJ7 will be chosen next year. It is known simply as “The Shot.” On this date, May 7th, in 1989, Michael Jordan hit one of the most memorable and dramatic buzzer beaters in NBA history. The Chicago Bulls were battling the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, the underdog in a 3-6 match-up. The series was tied 2 games apiece and this was the fifth and deciding game. It was already a feat that the Bulls had taken 2 games off of the Cavaliers as during the regular season they lost all four head to head match-ups against their Eastern Conference rivals. There are many iconic Jordan models that will forever be loved for many years to come since Michael Jordan did amazing performances night after night in his signature line. The Air Jordan IV holds a special place for all Jordan lovers since it was very ahead of its time in terms of style and technology. Jordan Brand was creating quite a name for themselves by reissuing some of the beloved favorite models for fans to purchase once more and relieve all the memories they had when they first owned the original pair or possibly did not have a chance back then to pick up a pair when they first dropped.  In the Fall of 1999 the team at Jordan Brand launched a Jordan IV slightly different from its predecessor and adopted an all leather upper rather than the mesh panels inserts the originals came with as well as other small changes. One of the first retro models and the first release to not be an original colorway this was also a great way for the brand to offer something more unique for a newer clientele as well as see if a new build could sell as well as older ones. Michael Jordan is the reason for many #sneakerholics’ obsession with sneakers. While we all have a different sneaker that was “the one” that started it for us, there are a handful of shoes that were undeniably iconic in nature, so much so, that even non-sneaker enthusiasts will remember them. One of those legendary sneakers is the Air Jordan 4 in white, black and “Fire Red” that Michael Jordan wore at Chicago Bulls home games in 1989.
