In 2011 New Balance and premier retailer Crooked Tongues teamed up for a two versions of the classic 1500 that paid homage to their history together. Crooked Tongues has been no stranger to working on various New Balance models over the past decade including the 1500. But this pack focused on both the 1500 along with some 576’s from the past. These special pack took the brands, and us, way back to 2004 when their partnership first started.

Originally set to be part of Crooked Tongues 10th anniversary celebration a year earlier they were delayed. They ensured the release was worth the wait by getting them perfect to pay respect to their first project as well as being strong enough to stand on their own merits. The 1500 model is highly revered model that has been loved by many since its introduction in 1993. It was the first pair of New Balance’s the eclipsed the $100 price range. So it’s constantly chosen for collaborative projects and special builds. There duty this time was to mimic and exceed the look of some of the 576’s the brand’s created together in 2004.

Just like the original 1500’s, this pack was manufactured and produced in the famed Flimby factory. Highly recognized to create some of New Balance’s highest quality runners utilizing some of their finest materials, there was no doubt in anyone’ms mind that they were produced there. Like the initial 576’s the choice of soft nubuck and premium leather was chosen again. The first pair done up in orange and black leather, grey nubuck and black mesh. The second pair featuring white and green leathers, lime green suede and grey mesh. Similar coloring to the originals, the colorblocking had to be tweaked a bit to conform to the 1500 panels.
Better late then never, the pairs high attention to detail and the hand stitching make them top-tier quality. Due to the meticulous process of creating these runners, and their history, only 250 pairs of each were produced. Very limited distribution was sent to only top-notch New Balance boutiques around the globe. Crooked Tongues and New Balance have come together for some great sneakeres over the years and these are some of the best.
