Nike has worked with a number of companies, brands and people throughout their history. Sometimes they happen to bless some lucky individuals with special sneakers that rarely see the light of day. Often times these friends and family models are sometimes spotted on a celebrity’s feet or pop up on eBay randomly surprising the sneaker community. One of those sneakers was this Air Force 1 Low created for Vibe Magazine back in 2003.
This special AF1 was created and inspired by the 2003 Vibe Awards that coincided with the magazine’s 10th anniversary. The classic Air Force 1 Low was and still is a popular choice for special edition projects. The color scheme was inspired by Vibe’s first issue and to commemorate their decade long run. Keeping the formula simple and classic in an all leather upper, the simple black and white combination is the foundation of the sneaker. A light blue Swoosh and heel added with vibrant pink on the liner, tongue and heel logo as well as the Vibe name stitched on the heel.
Released with both matching pink and blue laces the sneakers had a special a double-sided attachment. One of sides had the image of both Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G., the same image as the first of 10 covers created for the 10th anniversary. One the other side was the first issue’s cover image, rapper Treach of Naughty by Nature. Made for people at Vibe magazine, certain attendees of the show as well as friends and family there is rumored to be less 25 pairs floating around but we are lucky to spot a couple of pairs of the special kicks on the wiki.
