Sneaker Spotlight: Nike SB Zoom Team Edition “Tiger”

Nike SB Zoom Team Edition "Tiger"

Although the Year of the Tiger passed a few years back no one would mind if you broke out these “tiger” Zoom Team Edition SB’s. Actually not made for the Chinese zodiac, team rider Danny Supa actually designed this build for himself back in 2006. Part of the Team Rider series from that year, Supa put himself into the design of the sneaker, literally. You see he is a Thai American and wanted to pay homage to his background. So the tiger was chosen as the main feature to this first edition Team Edition.

The tiger print signifies Thailand as the “Tiger” of South East Asia by becoming an economic powerhouse in the language of globalism. The image of a tiger is added to the heel along with red Thai lettering which spell out Nike. The rest of the design utilized white perforated leather with suede paneling in black and grey. Blue on the heel and red on the tongue give this both a Thai and USA tie-in. A gum sole was added with the finishing touch being custom insoles with tiger claw marks and more of Nike in Thai added.

Although the Team Edition is now much more slimmed down following the trend of skate shoes now, the first Team Edition took the approach of more classic skate models. And this version from Danny Supa still one of the standout pairs.
