Jordan Brand is granting the wish of many sneakerholics as we see the return of the Air Jordan 5 “Laney”. Over 13 years since its release, the special colorway wasn’t one that was created when MJ first introduced the AJ5 to the world, nor probably a look that Tinker Hatfield originally thought of, but no matter. The look and build of the “Laney” was appropriately nicknamed and done up in the colors of Jordan’s High School. Yes the same High School in which he did not make the varsity team his sophomore year. But all that is in the past and that rejection was one of the things that fueled him to be the best player he could be.

Basking in the colors of his high school, the Air Jordan 5 “Laney” is officially color coded as White/Varsity Maize-Varsity Royal-Black. The upper is mostly white tumbled leather with the Varsity Maize and Varsity Royal providing the accents. One of the most interesting details about the shoe is the use of black on the liner that helps to pull out the Jumpman logo on the heel and 23 on the side. Released during a time that JB was showcasing new colorways, this is one that we’ve been waiting a long time to re-release.
Not many of the original “Laneys” are around, and many have yellowing soles and netting, so this release is a welcome sight. Sneakerholics felt this was a great time to break out their original pairs, before many go into retirement as the new ones release. Will you be one of the many picking up a pair this weekend? As always share with us a picture of when you rock your pair of “Laneys” on Twitter.
