Get Supreme teamed up with a brand to make sneakers and the results are usually something others wished they could have thought of first. Although the skate shop’s partnership with Nike is what they are most commonly known for, coming in a close second is their ties with Vans. The brands have linked up for multiple different packs and special collaborations over the past decade. With the number of collaborations going into the double digits this 2006 two-pack is for sure one of the most popular.

The famous skate shop decided on the iconic SK8-Hi for this project. The focus of this collaboration was one of hip hop’s most influential groups, Public Enemy. But the project was not a simple one as Public Enemy’s leader Chuck D had to approve everything about the project including the price of under $100 as he didn’t want kids to spend all of their money on sneakers. The main influence for the design and colors of the two SK8-Hi’s was the album, “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back.” Rolling Stones named the album #48 of the greatest ever and the highest ranking hip hop album on the list. The album was also important to Supreme as the time period, 1988, was a time that Supreme credits for being an important influence for their creativity and ideas.

The design of the SK8-Hi’s was simple. The uppers featured the addition of the group’s signature cross-hairs logo added onto the side panel only interrupted by the Vans leather stripe. The uppers were done in either black/white or black/white/green/red used to copy the album cover colors. The album’s title and powerful line of “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back” added onto the white midsole.

Packaging for the sneakers came complete with the group’s logo all-over the Vans box. As well the limited release, which could only be found in limited number at Supreme stores, had matching apparel and skateboard deck to complete the whole Public Enemy package. Rare sneakers to be seen, we still need one colorway added to the wiki, fans of Public Enemy, Supreme and Vans all seek after either of these SK8-His.
