Boston retailer Concepts is a very well-known name in the sneaker game for cranking out great collaborations with a variety of brands. Nike being a great supporter of the Boston retailer, has enjoyed teaming up with them over the years. In 2008 Concepts worked with the Nike SB division on a Dunk Low concept that resulted in three sneakers. Concepts inspiration came from a very popular sea creature that Boston is known for, the lobster. The Boston lobster is heralded by many for being the best in the nation. Being natives they wanted to have fun and feature the lobster into their whole design. The idea was also a unique way of showing love and heavy consumption of this delicacy.
Concepts x Nike SB Dunk Low Pro “Red Lobster” uploaded by kid_sneakerness
The Nike SB Dunk Low “Red Lobster” is composed of Sport Red and Pink Clay leather accents. The color combination was used to resemble an actual lobster found in the New England waters. The attention to detail is clearly found on the upper with their usage of small black spotting to mimic the look of a lobster’s shell. The heel padding and insole feature a custom tablecloth pattern. Another special addition that brings the design over the top was their usage of a removable rubber strap on the toe box to mimic the bindings they would use to keep the lobsters claws shut. For those who were lucky enough to pick up the sneakers in-store, Concepts offered a limited edition pack. The pack consisted of a custom wooden crate box with a work shirt with Concepts logo on it, a matching shirt, all the utensils for an actual lobster dinner you would use, a bib, wet naps, and an extra pair of yellow laces. This limited edition set was only limited to 50 made.
The Nike SB Dunk Low “Red Lobster” is one of the most creative designs in recent memory. These are very high on a lot of #sneakerholic Nike SB fans. Who was able to catch a pair? Where you one of the lucky few that got to snag one of the limited edition crates? Let us know your thoughts on these.
