Sneakerpedia, the world’s greatest online sneaker archive, is now two years old and to celebrate we are pleased to announce the new “Crate of the Year” competition. Since we had our global launch back in May 2011 there has been nearly 14,000 #sneakerholics signed up, uploading nearly 24,000 sneakers onto the largest sneaker wiki created.
During the past 2 years many have entered hoping to win one of the coveted “Crate of the Month” awards that were judged by an assortment of esteemed sneaker aficionados around the globe. Judges deeply engrained into the community and culture like DJ Clark Kent have aided us in choosing their top 3 crates for their respective month.
Now, for the first time, #sneakerholics can compete for the honor of having a chance to win the first ever “Crate of the Year” competition, and the rules have changed. Officially starting today June 5th, 2013 and running for a month until July 5th. Just like Crate of the Month for Crate of the Year you need to upload sneakers onto your crate onto the site. You want to showcase everything you have from your favorite GR’s, samples, PE’s, one-offs, retro, classics along with the great stories behind the kicks as well. Enter in as much information and kicks as you can because for Crate of the Year you will be judged by the community. The winning crate is chosen by the great sneaker community and fellow peers so you know that the prize is a great one.
Waiting for the one winner and a lucky friend will be a fantastic money-can’t-buy-prize. The pair of #sneakerholics will be whisked off for a weekend in New York City with two nights at the Ace Hotel. There, they will hook up with bonafide DJ, film-maker, and sneakerfreak Bobbito Garcia who’ll give them a unique guided tour of NYC, the original home of sneaker culture, taking them around Harlem and other locations synonymous with the sneaker way of life. Also they will invited to a screening of Bobbito’s Doing it in the Park documentary.
As Bobbito himself puts it: “Sneakerpedia is a cool idea and I dig that people from around the world can share their passion for footwear they way they do on it. I’m honored to be a part of the first Crate of the Year competition prize. NYC is my home and also the foundation for sneaker, hip hop and outdoor basketball culture. I’ll have fun sharing my town with the winner!”
The frontrunner will also have $1,000 to spend at the flagship Foot Locker House of Hoops store to bolster their winning collection.
