Global Sneaker Wiki Site Celebrates 2nd Anniversary
17th May 2013 – Today Sneakerpedia, the world’s greatest online sneaker archive, celebrates its 2nd anniversary. Since the site’s global launch in 2010 in NYC, Sneakerpedia members have uploaded a staggering 20,524 different sneakers to the site. As a result, Sneakerpedia continues to become the largest sneaker archive in the world.
Attracting some of the some of the world’s most influential sneaker aficionados and ambassadors, including bonafide DJ, film-maker, and sneaker freak Bobbito Garcia, Elliot Curtis, Jay Smith, Jonathan Mannion and DJ Clark Kent, an impressive 13,880 sneakerheads from over 146 nationalities have joined to share their crates.
Incredible rare one-offs like the New Balance 576 x House 33 shown below, staple GR’s, original vintage classics, forgotten gems, retro favourites, and the latest models, from 72 different sneaker designers and brands, have been uploaded onto Sneakerpedia. A fantastic reflection of just how extensive this archiving project has become and continues to be.
Over the last two years, Sneakerpedia has also identified the most ‘owned’ and ‘loved’ sneakers on the street. Since the beginning, and true still to this day, the most ‘owned’ sneaker on the wiki site is the Nike Air Max 90 Infrared
with more than twice the amount of “owns” than the next sneaker in line, the Air Jordan III True Blue. The most ‘loved’ sneaker is the undeniably cool 2010 release between Amsterdam based shop Patta and Dutch artist Parra, who teamed up to design the Nike Air Max 1 “Cherrywood” piece of sneaker goodness.
Kid Sneakerness, one of the founding partners and ambassadors, commented on the 2nd anniversary: “Since the Beta release in London, public release in NYC, so many exciting sneakers and sneaker stories have been shared. Sneakerpedia is a fantastic project.”
As part of the 2nd anniversary celebrations Sneakerpedia will also be launching its Crate of the Year competition. The Sneakerpedia community will be invited to enter their collection and judge the best crate in the world. Stay tuned as more announcements are made.
