2007 was another popular year for the Nike SB line. Nike SB has experimented with several concepts, materials, and themes over its lifetime and that year we saw a big hit when they released the three sneaker “Money Cat” pack. The last time they released a pack using the Dunk Low, Mid and High was for their “Three Bears” pack. This time their theme was centered on the Maneki Neko; the money cat. The money cat is a very popular and familiar figure in Japanese culture. The money cat is said to bring the person who owns or wears the figure good luck. So for these sneakers we see the tongue and other areas having logos and stitched on sayings like, “Get that money” and “Feeling lucky.” Bringing life to this pack were the duo of James Keoni Arizumi and Triplett who created the look for all three models.

The Dunk Low is the first one from the pack seen above. It featured a black sole and chili red midsole for a pop of color and unique combination not often seen on the Dunk. The upper is composed of an all gold color leather and supple suede combo. Amazing details on these lows is the use of the red stitching along with matching toecap embossed logo. On the tongue the saying “Feeling lucky” is stitched on.

The Nike Dunk Mid “Money Cat” was the darkest of the bunch. A gum bottom and black midsole combination was used here. The black theme continues to dominate the upper in suede while leather is featured on the gold additions and Swoosh. One striking feature is the use of red patent leather on the ankle strap, a special surprise thrown in. The last offering in this pack was the Dunk High. This model kept it more subtle. The sole for this is featured in green matched with the classic white midsole combination. The upper uses a combination of white leather and gold. The red accents are key to making this an attention grabber. Seen on the contrast stitching, leather Swoosh, laces and insole, the shade finished these off perfectly.
The Nike SB “Money Cat” pack was another successful pack to add to the Nike SB classic collection. It isn’t to often that we see the same theme executed through the three versions of the iconic Dunk, so you know Nike SB had to do it right. We are currently still missing the Nike Dunk High on the wiki, if you happen to have them in your collection we would really appreciate them being uploaded to the wiki for everyone to see.
