Concepts x New Balance 999 “The Kennedy” uploaded by Fellipe Canalli
Always inspired by their city and hometown, the inspiration came for this project came from late president John F. Kennedy and his great love for sailing, an activity that is very much a big part of Boston. John F. Kennedy was known to have a deep love for sailing that developed at a very young age thanks in part to his participation in various competitions. He would later go on to join the Navy when he was older and fought in World War 2. Concepts took all those factual key points and applied a nautical theme to their version of the New Balance 999. The materials that were used for the Kennedy’s were premium suede, nylon, and mesh. The toe wrap, mid panel, and top of the tongue on the sneaker were done in a rich grey suede. On the toe cap and heel wrap we see that a white mesh was used. The use of blue ripstop nylon around the heel aids in creating contrast on the upper. The liner featured a patterned liner, as well Concepts also made some nautical flags on the tongue as well a detachable flag that originally hung on the top lace hole. Along with the great design, if you were lucky enough to own a pair you had the option of three lace choices to switch up the look anytime.

The New Balance x Concepts “Kennedy” was a huge success and the demand for them was huge. Seems as those lucky to get a pair hold onto them and others are still working hard to get a pair for themselves. Great design, great inspiration, great “concept”, the Kennedy 999 is another feather on the cap of solid Concept’s sneaker designs.
