Sneaker Spotlight: Air Jordan IV Retro “Oreo”

Air Jordan IV Retro "Oreo"

There are many iconic Jordan models that will forever be loved for many years to come since Michael Jordan did amazing performances night after night in his signature line. The Air Jordan IV holds a special place for all Jordan lovers since it was very ahead of its time in terms of style and technology. Jordan Brand was creating quite a name for themselves by reissuing some of the beloved favorite models for fans to purchase once more and relieve all the memories they had when they first owned the original pair or possibly did not have a chance back then to pick up a pair when they first dropped.  In the Fall of 1999 the team at Jordan Brand launched a Jordan IV slightly different from its predecessor and adopted an all leather upper rather than the mesh panels inserts the originals came with as well as other small changes. One of the first retro models and the first release to not be an original colorway this was also a great way for the brand to offer something more unique for a newer clientele as well as see if a new build could sell as well as older ones. Something special to off the die-hard fans.

A supple tumbled pebbled leather was used on nearly the entire upper with a speckled grey midsole added. The name “Oreo” comes from the resemblance that it has to the color of the popular cookies. The execution of this model was dead on as it had some tie in to the past as well as had its own elements. These Jordan IV Retros created quite a buzz since they were both fashion forward and created with quality. These also stood out not only due to their all leather build but revised branding as well. The Jumpman logo replaced the Nike Air on the heel as well as featured solely on the tongue omitting the “Flight” font. It has now been 14 years since the “Oreos” launched and they still hold high praise and are on many #sneakerholics grail list. Finding a pair can be a little hard nowadays since they are highly sought after and have not been retroed, yet. We know many Jordan Brand enthusiasts are patiently waiting for a retro and to be given a chance to purchase this build. We know we are waiting!
