Collaborative partnerships between footwear brands and boutiques are not always long term successes. However, Boston neighbors New Balance and Concepts seem to have figured out a winning combination. The partnership between these two companies is one that has resulted in a number of great releases. This past weekend, New Balance and Concepts released another creative collaboration entitled S.E.A.L.S using the New Balance 999 silhouette, which had us reminiscing about some of their other collaborations, including one from 5 years ago that used the iconic 576 silhouette as the creative canvas.
The New Balance x Concepts 576 released in August of 2007. The color combination chosen begins with a white pebbled leather base. A light blue nubuck overlay panel was chosen for the midfoot, while yellow nubuck takes its place on the toebox, tongue and heel panel. A hint of white patent leather is used on the heel, where a cursive “Made in the USA” describes the sneaker’s origins. To add the finishing touches to the design, Concepts added a touch of bright lime green to the heel and tongue logos, as well as over the Encap logo on the midsole. The result of the quality materials and unique colors is one of the many reasons, New Balance and Concepts continue to have a successful partnership today.
