Although nowadays, Jordan retro models are reworked in a variety of materials and colorways every few months, in May of 2007, Jordan Brand did some things that we had never before seen. They released the Jordan Retro 3 “Pure Money” or as many call them, “Pures.”

The Jordan 3 Pure Money was not the first of the Jordan 3 Retro models to stray from the original colorways of the shoe. We had seen the “Mocha” Jordan Retro 3 (which we could use help with an upload of), which marked the first time lifestyle inspired colorways were used on the Jordan Retro 3. If you take a closer look at the details of the shoes, the Pure Money version was more of a sign of things to come. The Pure Money Retro 3 was the first to feature any type of shiny patent material on the Jordan 3 silhouette. In addition to that, it also featured Elephant Print laces, also something completely unique and geared toward the street side of Jordan sneakers, as opposed to the traditional colorways that had always been derived from MJ’s on-court play. In a sense, one of the simplest colorways, just White and Metallic Silver officially, opened up the door for some of the key design elements that have become incredibly important in the world of sneakers, just five years later.
