Sneaker History: Remembering DJ AM

A few years ago, we lost a #sneakerholic that helped bring the love for all things sneakers to the attention of the worldwide media. Today, we wanted to remember a man who would have been celebrating his 39th birthday on this day, DJ AM aka Adam Goldstein. AM was known early in his career as the DJ of musical group Crazy Town but his sneaker infatuation started long before that thanks to the Air Force 2. Couple his love for sneakers with his musical talents on the turntables and it was no surprise to see his popularity grow.

AM turned into one of the most popular DJ’s and #sneakerholics in the world but especially in Hollywood. His popularity landed him a visit from MTV to capture a glimpse of his sneaker collection. He showed off some rare kicks to the world including some custom lasered DJ AM Air Jordan 1’s, Air Jordan IV’s, original Ewings and much more.

DJ AM helped bring the love of sneakers to the world and would often be called upon to showcase his sneaker obsession. Many remember his cameo appearance in HBO’s hit show Entourage, going to the extremes to secure a pair of “Fukijama” Air Force 1’s.

DJ AM also lost his early pair of Air Yeezy’s to Mike Epps in game of HORSE in an advertisement for the Nike Zoom Kobe IV.

Just before his passing Nike was working with AM and DJ Premier on a special set of kicks. DJ AM created his very own version of the Dunk High that was true to him. Using features like patent leather, his own logo and paying homage to turntables since they pay the bills. To the joy of many, Nike still released the sneaker so that DJ AM’s fans could have a small piece of the artist in their lives.

Although gone, the legacy of DJ AM lives on. Even though he lived his life constantly in the spotlight, DJ AM was like the rest of us and loved to throw on a fresh pair of kicks and talk sneakers with anyone he could. May he rest in peace.
