For American sneaker enthusiasts, this time of year is the month that those people who have had to deal with the troubles of cancer, come together to bring awareness to the life-taking disease. Many organizations participate in helping raise support for the fight against cancer including the American Cancer Society, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Kay Yow Foundation each, in their own unique way, participate in fundraisers and activities to bring more attention to how dangerous breast cancer is.
Many footwear companies have joined in to support the cause over the years. Today we take a look at the few of these collectible colorways, some only available at charity auctions, which have found their way onto the Sneakerpedia wiki. When it comes to rare colorways, New York City’s sneaker collector, MAYOR, is no stranger to them. It’s from his collection all three of the Pink Breast Cancer Awareness colorways seen on the wiki come from.
First is one that many people might be familiar with, the above-pictured Nike Zoom Kobe V released in a special Pinkfire colorway in extremely limited quantities in 2010. On this collaboration with the Kay Yow Foundation the pink Kay Yow logo resides on the heel, giving it a unique touch.
The next two colorways from the wiki are variations of the Nike Air Max LeBron 7. The first is a white-based version with pink details that was worn by Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA. The final Breast Cancer Awareness colorway currently on Sneakerpedia.com is the colorway that LeBron James wore for “Box Out Cancer” night in Cleveland before he took his talents to South Beach.
There are a wide variety of pink colorways designed for Breast Cancer Awareness month, so if you have any in your collection, please upload them to the wiki and let us know. We look forward to seeing your rare kicks!
