Happy Birthday to the King of Pop

Today is the birthday of the other MJ, the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. Although the star’s light is no longer shining, his music, movies and life still live on through millions of people influenced by the entertainment icon. Michael Jackson was one of the first non-athletes to ever make a serious impact on the sneaker culture, paving the way for artists like Kanye West. With that in mind, we wanted to look back at some of his signature shoes that were created with L.A. Gear. We found two original Michael Jackson signatures on Sneakerpedia, both the low and high top version of the Moon Rocker, uploaded by #sneakerholic, kid sneakerness.

Along with dancing away in his own signature shoes, Michael Jackson is also remembered by sneaker enthusiasts for teaming up with another famous MJ. In 1992, Michael Jordan wore the original Air Jordan 7 “Bordueax” to teach Jackson how to play basketball who in return taught him how to dance in Jackson’s music video for his song, “Jam.” Also in the video are other cameos by stars and shoes you may have forgotten about.

Happy birthday to the King of Pop, you will never be forgotten and will live on through your music and sneakers.
